Why vote?

[livejournal.com profile] the_magician pointed out in a comment on my last post:

"No. I haven't (voted for the Pegasus). Just thought there should be at least one comment here from someone who hasn't.

To be fair I'd want to spend some time listening to all the entries and then making an informed choice, otherwise it's just a popularity contest based on who I know and who has performed on this side of the Atlantic.

I am really happy that someone has said this out loud. :) My answer to him was:

This is exactly what we would like every single person who votes to do.

It's why there's a sound file for each Nominee on the site. It's why we cooperate every year with Filk Radio to broadcast as many of the full songs as we can get permission for. It's why we strive to ensure that the lyrics to every song, and a sample of the work for every Writer/Composer and Performer is up and on the site. It's why we are continually trying to find better ways to give people access to the Nominated material so that they can make informed decisions.

Thanks, Magician. :) I feel that this is why many people vote at OVFF, because they can hear the songs performed live at the Nominees concert on Friday night.

And, honestly, it's the 'popularity contest' issue of this Award that is the most difficult to change. Yes, there have been a lot of people out there who will only vote for who they like, not necessarily who (upon reflection) they feel is best. I like to feel that this is changing.

Why? Well, in the past, people would vote for who they knew simply because they had no other way to actually hear all the songs that were Nominated. It really was a popularity contest. However, by making recordings available, the quality (and number!) of Nominations and Final Ballots has increased tenfold.

Ok, Steve shut up now. :) I really hadn't intended to make Yet Another Pegasus Post, because there's really been enough out there... and I'm not the Evangelista any longer. I just maintain the website, now. The rest is up to [livejournal.com profile] catalana. Poor woman.

Treat her kindly, ok? :)

I voted...

So, I've just submitted my ballot for the 2007 Pegasus Awards. Have you?

There are four letters in the Pirate alphabet.

The first, of course, is the letter A! (pronounced 'Eh!', for you non-American-English speakers).

The second is the letter I! (Aye!)

The third is the letter R! (Arrr!)

And the fourth letter is the letter C. 'Cuz Pirates sail on the rollin' C.

Can you just imagine all the little kids in Pirate school? With their little eyepatches, short peglegs, and plastic hooks (cuz REAL hooks would eventually mean no Pirate adults...). And at the front, the Pirate teacher who writes a large letter ARRR! on the board.

And one little Pirate boy, in the back of the room, with a dunce cap on his head, who says, " ..... Q?"

And, as if all that wasn't enough, I also managed to update the entire Pegasus Nominees Site to [livejournal.com profile] filker0's excellent code base.

You should check it out... *wink*

EDIT: Sorry this is confusing- there's a previous friendslocked post to this that I can't unlock... but the Pegasus site is cool!

The Final Battle between Voldemort and Harry, as told in movie quotes:

Harry: Hi, Voldy, kill anyone today?
Voldemort: Day ain't over yet. (City Slickers)

Voldemort: You've got to ask yourself one question: 'Do I feel lucky?' Well, do ya, punk? (Dirty Harry)

Harry: The pellet with the poison's in the vessel with the pestle. The chalice from the palace has the brew that is true. (The Court Jester)

Voldemort: What?

Harry: Sorry... nervous. I was repeating my Potions final...

Harry: It isn't that I don't like you, Voldemort, because after all, in moments of quiet, I'm strangely drawn toward you; but, well, there haven't been any quiet moments! (Bringing Up Baby)

Voldemort: Get busy livin' or get busy dyin'. (The Shawshank Redemption)

Harry: My name is Harry Potter. You killed my father. Prepare to die. (The Princess Bride)

Voldemort: Good-bye, Mr. Potter. (Goldfinger)

Voldemort: AVADA KEDAVRA! (Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire)

Harry (simultaneously with Voldemort): GORT! KLAATU BARADA NIKTO!! (The Day the Earth Stood Still)

Harry, standing over Voldemort's dead body: "Yipee-ki-yay motherfucker." (Die Hard)

Ron and Harry, high fiving: Excellent! (Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure)

As you know, I was the Music GoH at Moonbase ConFusion.

The Consuite was run by [livejournal.com profile] tammylc, who told me that she was starting a chocolatier business, Tammy's Tastings. As a part of that announcement, she gave me a GoH care package. In the care package was a small white box; with four chocolate truffles in it.

They were visual works of art. I couldn't touch them. They came back to Germany with me.

When it comes to chocolate, I'm plebian. Give me milk in my chocolate (horror!), lots of sugar (gasp!), and if it's mass-market produced, all the better (augh!). I will eat dark chocolate if it's in front of me, but it's really not my thing. Looking at these truffles, between their sheer beauty and my low-brow chocolate tastes, it's actually been pretty easy to let them stay artwork on the counter.

Until today.

Mind you- I had no idea what these truffles actually *were* until I dropped by Tammy's website to do at least a tiiiiny bit of research for this post.

The Strawberry Balsamic truffle was... good! The Passionfruit one was... better! "Wow," I thought, "I knew these would be good, but dang!"

Then I bit into the Hazelnut Praline. I didn't know it was going to be Hazelnut. Two of my favorite flavors (outside of chocolate) are Hazelnut and Caramel. I was a puddle on the couch. Tammy, can I bear your children? OMG, what a flavor....

Then... I bit into the Salty Caramel. Holy jay mother of kryptonite...

Tammy- never mind about the children thing. I think I'll just undergo mitosis- it's possible now with the kind of puddle you've left me in.

Needless to say, when I'm back in the US in June for a couple days, I'll be taking some truffles back to Europe with me...

A couple days ago in this post I did the Christmas Song meme, and was rather surprised with the psychic-seeming abilities of the word-generator.

That result ended in [livejournal.com profile] trdsf writing a verse, which made me finish the song. I imagine this being performed by Perry Como or Lawrence Welk.

Oh, the creature outside is frightful
And he thinks you'll taste delightful
There's a monster out in the snow
Wendigo, wendigo, wendigo!

Oh he doesn't show signs of stopping
'Cuz your joints are good for popping
You hunker there way down low
Wendigo, wendigo, wendigo.

I don't wanna kiss you goodnight
Cuz I'd hate to go out in the storm
If we nail the door shut real tight
Maybe we'll last 'til the morn

The fire is slowly dying
And, my dear, he's still there spying
And we'll hold these shotguns just so...
Wendigo, wendigo, wendigo!
gallamor: (xmasbaa)
How did it KNOW!?!?!?!?

Oh the tarkrai outside is frightful
But the fire is so delightful
And since we've no place to go,
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.

Following the inspiration of [livejournal.com profile] nelladarren, we're posting a mystery picture. So, we found this thing in our kitchen. Can you tell what it is?

Yes, we'll post the solution tomorrow...

Given that yesterday was my birthday, this meme is actually pretty timely. Gakked from [livejournal.com profile] drzarron:

You Are 19 Years Old

Under 12: You are a kid at heart. You still have an optimistic life view - and you look at the world with awe.

13-19: You are a teenager at heart. You question authority and are still trying to find your place in this world.

20-29: You are a twentysomething at heart. You feel excited about what's to come... love, work, and new experiences.

30-39: You are a thirtysomething at heart. You've had a taste of success and true love, but you want more!

40+: You are a mature adult. You've been through most of the ups and downs of life already. Now you get to sit back and relax.

[livejournal.com profile] katyhh's comment on this: "I am NOT surprised."
